Default Another AC question...

Yesterday afternoon was the first time I tried the AC and it didn't get any cooler in my car, maybe hotter. After reading the threads on the AC below, I checked to make sure I had AC, then checked for a code by pushing the up and down arrows simultaneously for 5 seconds. Instead of ---, I got -00. Is this a code 00, and if so, can anybody translate? I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago and am enjoying it immensely. Another quick question, I have a '91 and looking at the controls for the climate, there are no switches or buttons that relate to air conditioning. It seems like the only way to turn it on is to set the temperature lower. Is this correct? From the left, the buttons are auto, recirculate, feet, dash & feet, dash, and defrost. Above is the mirror defrost on the right, fan speed, display, and then temperature setting. No max a/c or a/c like the newer cars or anything that I've ever seen on any other car relating to turning on the a/c. Thanks for your help.

My '90 is set up the same way and you are correct about the temp control, but I don't know the codes for it.

The 00 means that there is no problem. Did you cycle through all of the codes and only saw a 00?
If the computer that controls the compressor clutch senses a problem like an overheated clutch or low freon, it will turn off the compressor and will not reset itself. You have to disconnect the negative battery terminal for 2 minutes then reconnect it.
Try this as the computer may have sensed an intermittant problem that is not there when you try to pull the codes.

I'm right there with you. Same problem and finally have the time to take it to get checked today.

First thing to do is lift the hood and see if the compressor engages.

Auto is you basic Air setting - 60 is max meaning full blower and the outside air door is closed so the Evaporator is only getting inside air to cool down. Put it there and verify that the compressor engages.
