Idle Stalling Issue

I'd save the money on unnecessary parts and buy a scanner - All sorts of things could be going on. The Coolant Temp Sensor could be faulty - telling the ECM it's warmed up when it's not which would be the same as opening up the choke too fast. It could just as well be the ECM. For even better tips and to learn how it works, stop by Borders and pickup Ben Watson's Chevy Fuel Injection (you can sit there and sip on a cup of coffee while you read it if you want to). It's all a guess without some data or real troubleshooting.

If you have money to burn and don't care about the CAUSE of the problem, send it out. If you spent a little time with the FSM and trouble shooting, you might accidentally learn something. Order a new engine, while you're at it.

Lots of ways to find a bad ECM in the troubleshooting charts. When I had a hard cold start, no fast idle and the main fan running cold, my scan showed an ECT bouncing around 230 or so, I checked the Sensor, signal and wiring. Everything was to specs. The only thing left was the ECM. Other sensors can be checked the same way - even the injectors and the HEI. It's matter of following a logical approach and the Good Book lays it all out.
