i got an 96 lt4 and i am putting slp shorties on it.. but i got them used and i can't really get a bolt in where the dipstick tube and the support brace for the ac compressor go. anyone with that has delt with this please show me what you did.. and for the air tube how did you mod that.. thanks!!!
the slp headers have a spacer there but the stock bolt won't work and i don't see how any other bolt will fit.. they were used and they weren't dimpled to clear a bolt..
I used a grinder and grinded the flared part of the stock bolt until it cleared the tubes. As for the dip stick tube and the AC bracket, did the same. Grind it down slowly until it clears the tube. For the air tube, I removed the bracket on the tube that mounts to the back of the head. That gave the tube some space for it to move to the back, so the fitting will meet the bung. Hope that help.

if you ever want to get ride of the slp shorties, let me know
yes i want to sell the headers that i just bought and am installing. thanks. i don't know what i would have done without your vital help!
back to reality, thanks james93!! i was thinking of getting a regular bolt to try and see if it would work.. but the air tube was my main concernso all you did was bend it a little and it worked?
When I had the shorties I had to radius the bolts with a grinder to make them fit. Pretty easy. I believe they suggest cutting the air pipe and rewelding it but all I did was unbolt it from back of head and move it back to make it fit.
When I use to have them, I just bought some 3/8" threaded stainless and cut it to length to make studs out of it. Use a small diameter washer and standard nut and it should fit just fine.
For the air tube, you just have to remove the retaining bolt from the back of the passenger-side head that holds the air tube. Then you'll be able to move the tube enough to connect it to the headers.
