Yeah, that would be nice to have. I've always wondered if I could do a rebuild myself. Obviously I won't do one to my vette now since it is a daily driver, but as a project in the future. I've even thought about buying an LT4 from a scrapped vette and spending a long while rebuilding it and fixin' it all up with some goodies and putting it in mine. But that won't come until I get another vehicle as a daily driver.
I don't know of a Forum for engine building but both Dave Emanuel's and John Lingenfelter's books are great and availble on Amazon. Though it will still be a bit of a learning curve.
Late last night, while assembling this engine out in the shop, I found that the spring in the Comp Cams, flat tappet, hydraulic, Pro Magnum lifters, would not push the plunger up to the retainer. Never seen one like that before.
Makes it kinda hard to set a 0.002-0.004" pre-load, at the lifter, when the plunger is way down below the retainer. I thought I might find some info on these lifters at some secret voodoo engine building forum, for people that build engines in the middle of the night. No such luck.... I called Comp Cams today and actually got a hold of the "Cam Help " guy. SOOO...to make a long story short...........That's the way they are suppose to be...The plunger doesn't make it to the retainer...these lifters won't float a valve until 7200rpm (so Comp says), they should be set at zero lash for break-in and for max power. To quiet them down, you can put 0.002-0.004 pre-load, and not loose any power. The MAX pre-load is 0.010"
Hey Mackey, if anybody askes you to set up their hydraulic Pro Magnum Lifters, tell 'em ya know HOW TO......
