The saga continues. Has anyone replaced the timing cover gasket and seals with the engine in the car. I'm stuck on removing the crackshaft flange. It's coming off but there doesn't seem to be enough room to get it off with the puller connected. The manual says to raise the engine after removing the power steering cooler. Has anyone done this in the car? Does the engine have to be raised? Any help is greatly appreciated.
There is a special Kent Moore tool listed in the FSM for this that works perfectly.Other ones may have the problem you are having.Yes you can try to lift the engine a little as a last resort. If you can't get it that way time to pony up the $$$ for the right tool.
I've removed my hub/flange without raising the engine. But if needed, raising the engine is easy, remove the two motor mount nuts, place a block of wood under the oil pan and jack it up.
With my hub puller there just wasn't enough room. So... I cut some steel, did a little welding and made a puller. I bolted it on with the bolts for the balance wheel, had plenty of room and off it came. Tomorrow I'll drain the oil, lower the pan and remove the timing cover. I'll be replacing the seals in the cover. I see a lot of talk about a special tool for one ot the seals. Any advice? Then on to removing the intake. Thanks STL94LT1 for the help!
