Well guys....I believe my heater core is shot I occasionally smell anti-freeze, My window fogs up from time to time, and yesterday I lifted up my passanger side floormat and the carpet felt like it had a real light mist on it. Sounds like the core....right? Anyways how can I make for certain it is the heater core before I take it to my mechanic to get done. I am not super mechanically inclined ( I installed my ram-air and can do little things) and just want to make sure. I drive the car once a week and dont drive over the cold winter months......so does it need to be fixed? All in all though I really just need a way to test if that is waht I think it is.
THANKS!!!
For a quick fix you can bypass the heater core, connect one hose to the other. There is a tool that you use to pressurize the coolant system to look for leaks. You can put dye into the system to help detect the leak, it comes in a kit with an ultraviolet light to detect teh dye.
You have all the classic symptons of bad core. I don't think you have to be a master mechanic to change just part contortionist. Been lots of posts on how to do, some even have pics. A lot of guys have removed passenger seat and dash pad as starting points, like i said use the search function and good luck.
Just replaced mine a few weeks ago. It was a big PITA!! Its not really that hard to do, its just a very small area to work in. There is a member on here Jet Jock that wrote a step by step guide with color pictures that helps alot. I used it when I replaced mine. Good luck!
