I believe I spun a bearing and damaged the engine. I am considering starting from scratch with a crate engine or Jasper remanufactured engine.
I am interested in hearing your experiences and the costs.
Thanks!
GM crate motor........Save your old block......I've seen new 350 short blk,195 hp for $1105,[factory 84 was 205hp], and 550 hp as high as $6000.....The only way to fly.......Cost is determined by how fast you want to go........Summit has a ton of them advertised, some with FREE shipping
www.victoryracingengines.com several guys I know have had very good things to say about them......Golen engine builders , like was mentioned earlier, is also a very good reputable builder......Either way, do yourself a favor and get something "higher" quality than what you had or you'll "very" likely end up in the same position......and IMO, not just a remanufactured job, they slap 'em together like you wouldn't believe.

I just had a lt4 s/c 383 done by Port Pros in Tx. very nice work. service wise, we had a problem with head studs leaking, Harold the owner of Port Pros came up from Tx. to Pa. himself to make sure the problem was fixed. thats service and a stand behind his product. I dont know of to many companies that would do that. PortPros.com
regards

See my post re/ Jasper in your last thread on this very same subject. Click
Thanks Chris,
I have ruled out Jasper and the other remanufactured engine guys! That would work if I was selling the car but it looks like it is a keeper now because I am buried in the car and even with the rebuild it is not worth much...
I have a few great options. I have a local guy who builds race engines locally and has rebuilt quite a few LT engines. I plan to go with all forged components and come out with a stong strong balance and forged 350. I would love to get a 383 but that may be stretching a bit right now.
I just pulled mine and rebuilt it, bored it, ported it, added better internals, etc... spent under $1500 for the entire project, including all aftermarket performance parts. That includes all the machine shop labor, and all the extra crap I bought at Vatozone when i found i was missing stuff here and there.
buying a new engine all depends on your budget. Any corvette lover will tell you the ideal vette engine is a 427 that might be a tight fit but if you can get it in it would be well worth it. Plus a good one will run you about $7,000 the performance is well worth it because remember later on if you want more horsepower you can still upgrade with a supercharger.

If you're building all forged anyway, there should be virtually no difference between in price between building a 350 (or 355) or a 383. You could also build a 388 like I did and achieve zero deck w/o any block shaving.

how did you do it so cheap? did you do it yourself?
