Thanks...
If the transmission is from a 1989 or '90, use the parts from the 1984 transmission. In 1991 they changed the diameter of the mainshaft where the drive gear fits on. They don't make a proper tooth count drive gear to fit the later shaft. If that is your case, let me know and I'll try getting creative.

This is the exact swap I did. The ZF should have a grey gear in it, don't mess with it. You need a red driven gear, 37 teeth. Use your 84s speedo sensor and spin it upside down, use the clamp off your 84 and tweak the fingers so they hold it in.
You'll get sick of the 3.07s with that zf in no time though. Save up some cash for a new ring/pinion.
Also, while you're in there, get a 91+ backup sensor connector. It's the same p/n as the 91+ horn connector, AC delco pt1357, napa also has it. Splice it in place of your old backup sensor plug. Much cheaper this way than spending $60 on the 89-90 sensor that fits your harness.

If the grey, 15 tooth, drive gear isn't there, the part number for 1991 and up, is 12507670. The red, 37 tooth, driven gear is a 25513044.
RACE ON!!!
Thanks, CFI-EFI This should be a nice running 84, we used a 91 long block w/ rollercam and 1.6 roller rockers & TPI fuel pump. next will come x-ram & flowed TB's & custom chip. at some point the 3.07 will go and a 3.55 will go in.
