electrical problems
First let me set this all up for ya'll. I have an '85 that is basically stock. I replaced the alternator, battery, and starter about three months ago. Not because they were bad, but they were all the originals from chevy(except battery) and I felt alot more comfortable with new ones. A month later, I installed an MSD 6A box, MSD cap/rotor, and coil. About a week ago, I started having problems with the volt gauge jumping to 16-17 volts while cruising about 1800rpm. As I'd slow down to pull over the volt would go back down to 12-13, but the motor wouldn't idle down under 1100rpm for 3-5 seconds. Normally it idles between 700-750 in neutral or with the clutch in. This happened four times on my trip home. On the 5 time, the fuse that runs the radio/lighter..etc blew. When I got it home, I replaced the fuse and disconected my amp. I took it for a test drive and it popped the fuse again. But even with the fuse blown it still overcharged again. Any idea's on what's happening? Are the fuse and overcharge connected? I'm taking the alt. in to get it bench tested, but it's practically brand new(not reman.) it shouldn't be going out already should it? thanks in advance for any help out there.
