I am assuming you have a 89, so do not get the 3.73 gears and save your money.
3.73 are great for LT1's.
First you need to base line your car, should be around 14.0 at 98mph. Next I would do an aftermarket base & runner combo. Plus you need to do all the little/free mods such as cutlid,TB bypass, port the MAF sensor, k&N filter, and pullies.
Then a nice set of Drag radials would help big time. Take a look at my signature, I have cut about .5 seconds off my ET with these mods in great weather.
I agree with Vic... you would be way overgeared with 3.73.. 3.07 gears will give the best performance with a long runnered motor. You will need need head work, a cam, and improved intake to see 12's
