I have a corvette year 1989 .Automatic_Transmission.
The weather in the country where i live is hot.
There is a Unit or a Sensor mounted on the engine somewhere that lets the Cooling Fan work when the Temperature goes up to 107degrees in my Corvette.
I don`t know exactly where this Unit is..
The question is :
Is there a solution to replace this unit or sensor by new one or something else that makes the Fan work when the Temperature is less than 107 degrees??
I think you mean 170 degrees. Why would you want to mess with it? Does your car temp go over 220? Its true that a lower temp gets you more HP but is it something thats really going to make a differance for you?
Well you gotta state that fmmma. If your talking C say it or I assume F. Thanks for clearing that up MilehighZ51. Anyway, I would recommend cutting out the sensor and setting up a switch and also going with a dual electric fan set up and changing the thermostat to a 170-180 or so.
There are aftermarket 185 F fan activation switches that replaces the factory fan switch which is mounted in the left side cylinder head. It is available at several vendors, they cost $30, give or take, plus shipping. However, you should know that the fan switch for a late 80's Buick is available over the counter at most part stores and that it has a 185 F specification, plus the same connector and thread pattern as your corvette. (You really didn't think Eklers or MAD went to a sensor manufacturer and had something specially engineered... they researched an already available option and sell it for twice what it should cost you).
This will get the fans going earlier... whether that will overcome the heat you are generating is another question.
I had a problem with my car staying at 235f when running , couldn't really get it lower even by cleaning out the radiator, using a switch on my 2nd fan so i can turn it on, and replaced my water pump, replaced the thermostat with a 180f one, nothing brought the temp down....until i replaced the original chip with the hyperchip , i don't know if it changed the fuel air mix or becouse it turns the main fan on at 175f but my car runs at 185f now and i am very happy.
I assume an 89 is very close to an 87! So, the main fan is controlled by the ECM-period. The auxilliary fan-in front of the condenser (if you have one) is controlled by the temp switch in the drivers head between cylinders 1 and 3. Now-you can get a lower temp switch to replace the one in the drivers head-AND, you can wire it so both fans come on at the same time, at a lower temp-without having to reprogram the ECM. Both my main fan and auxilliary come on at 200, and go off at 185. Works for me.
And it is not true that a lower temp gets you more HP, a cooler intake does, but has nothing to do with engine temps.
