Here's my stock l98 tube and stick that I replaced when I did my header install because it seeped oil at base where it looks like a previous owner squeezed it with pliers or something in what I'm guessing was an attempt to pull it.
As you can see, the tube extends into block 3- 1/2 inches and the stick when fully installed goes another 4-1/2 beyond that into the pan.

Yea, the south end of the dipstick tube goes all the wasy through the block and sticks out a couple inches. Not a big thing, but they are just lying. I hate machine shops.
