I had one done, the driver front. I feel it is well worth it since I do not want to shell out money to replace the whole system. Side note my bother has an NSX (Acura) and wouldn't you know it the damm thing has Bose to. He only had one speaker left working and after he heard what they did with mine, he all of his removed, and they are rebuilding them now. He gets them all back in tomorrow so if interested I will let you know the out come. The 2 systems are very simular so should be interesting to hear it once done. :boxing
2 of mine went out awhile back, so I went 2 GM @ Carlisle and got both speakers and amps 4 $60. I couldn't pass that up U'd pay way more than that 4 1. :D :D :D
Tried the "Tech Tip" procedure on two amps. Didn't work on either one! Had to send them off for repair. An outfit called Doctor Don's. $57.00 each including shipping. http://doctordons.homestead.com
There is another outfit called Corvette Parts Service and Sales Co. that is a little cheaper. http://www.Vettronics.com
I tried it too. Didn't work for me either. IN fact, I've never heard anyone say that is did work for them...except the guy that wrote up the proceedure. Not saying it's a waist of time, but it seems it doesn't work for most. But, it's easy to do...give it as shot.
Update.........well it worked for a little while but then the ear curdeling high freq's just came right back.......while driving down the road!! man....that will make your heart go through the roof when you dont expect it!!
Oh well time to take the to the Amp shop.
Stupid things :smash: :smash: :smash:
Worth a shot though huh!
My rear right side amp is starting to crap out now. It cuts in and out and often makes a high pitched noise that startled me the first time I heard it. I looked in MA's catalog and the amps are $100 a piece. No one ever said owning a Vette was cheap...
YEAH, I TRIED THE AMP FIX TOO ON MY '92 - BOTH REAR SPEAKER AMPS WENT BAD WITHIN A WEEK OF ONE ANOTHER. REPLACED ALL OF THE CAPS ON ONE OF THEM AND THE SQUEALING WAS STILL THERE. I ENDED UP FINDING A 2 OHM STABLE POWER AMPLIFIER, USED THE WIRING DIAGRAM IN THE SERVICE MANUAL - THERE'S FOUR WIRES GOING TO THE AMP - ONE POWER AND ONE GROUND (FOR THE AMP) AND A SIGNAL AND A SIGNAL GROUND (PREAMP LEVEL INPUTS). I ENDED UP MAKING A HARNESS TO RUN TO THE POWER AMP I INSTALLED IN THE REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT WITH SPEAKER OUTPUTS BACK TO THE STOCK BOSE ENCLOSURES. EVEN THOUGH BOSE SAYS THEIR SPEAKERS ARE ONLY 1 OHM, I'VE BEEN RUNNING THIS SETUP SINCE MAY WITHOUT BLOWING ANY AMP FUSES - SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO THAT CARDIAC ARREST-INDUCING SQUEALING! PLUS THE AMP HAS PROVISIONS FOR ME TO TAILOR THE SOUND FOR THE REARS!
I did three of mine and it made a huge difference!!!!!!!!!
I replaced almost every capacitor myself. It was not that hard, just be very careful!! My wife was very impressed, she thoght i would ruin them.I thought i'll show her!!
Rear speakers alot easier to access than the fronts.I can actually hear my
radio at cruisin speed ,
In my opinion this was a great tech tip!!!But i may have been one of the lucky ones, who knows??
