Default Crank Pulley Removal

Need some help. Working on replacing the opti on my 95 & I can't remove the carnk pulley bolts without the engine turning.

Whats the trick to remove this without the engine turning?

Also, does the water pump need to come off to replace the opti?

I assume you have an automatic, otherwise you would just put the tranny in gear. Put a breaker bar on them and hit it with a hammer to get them started. I don't believe there's anyway to change the opti w/o removing the pump, but it's only 6 more bolts.

I use two wrenches, one on the bolt I am remove and the other on one of the other 2 damper bolts. On the last damper bolt I put my wrench on the hub bolt.

OK, now I have the 3 bolts out of the crank pulley.

How do I pull it off?

There doesn't seem to be enough room to use a pulling tool.

Block of wood and a hammer from behind and underneath. The damper will come out and the hub should remain. Make sure to hit it evenly from the sides so it doesn't bind. Mine came off too freaking easy on the first hit.
Good luck

I was just able to grab both sides and rock it back and forth. It should come off fairly easy. Do not forget to mark it, because the pulley is balanced.

The pulley will only go back on one way. Now the hub is a different story.

Block Of wood & hammer did the trick.

Thanks!

One more questions. Is there any gaskets or seals that need to be replaced on the opti before installation?

There's a seal in the timing cover for the opti I replaced mine.
