I just noticed while doing the heater core bypass on my '92 LT1 and testing for any leaks afterwards, that when the temsp hit 228F, One Fan went on, but the other one did not.
The one on the Drivers' side went on, cooled the car to 215F in a minute or two, but the otehr one on the passenger side didn't.
Aren't they both supposed to do this?
I pulled the relays and they both are working fine. (Tested the contacts and internat switching.)
Ohh... So if everything is working well, the passenger-side fan will never go on right?
Depends on your climate, I would imagine... I usually manually trip my fans on with the A/C button if I'm sitting in traffic and I see the temps climbing north of 220.
There Is A Way To Wire Them To A Switch ,when It Gets Hot, Turn The Fans Both On, But When Switch Is Off The Stock System Still Works.. Thats How I Have It.....
Yeah i will be installing a manual switch, but was just making sure that it was normal for the 2nd fan not to go on..Since the car never hits 237F guess it'll never happen..LOL
As others have noted here, the driver's side fan is the primary fan, and it will kick on before the secondary fan will.
Rather than installing a manual switch, and having to switch them on/off at lower temps yourself, why not reprogram the ECM to kick your fans on at whatever temp you like? I did this on my '94, and am very pleased with the result.

Be well,

I would love to, but I'd have to have a chip burned for that. I have not found any BINs yet for '92 LT1's, so I can't do it myself. Yours is easier since it can be programmed with a Power Programmer, without the need for chips.
yea my 92 runs really hot, I bought a 160 thermostat but it still gets up into the 210-220 if im at a light. I looked in a summit catalog, Hypertech makes a switch or something that turns your fans on earlier, instead of the fans turning on at 226 they will turn on at 176 and off at 166. but its 43 bucks. Have you guys heard of this? Is it worth it?
