guys,
i know c3' inside out,,,but,
my buddy has just got a 1986 that has been butchered a bit,
the biggest prob at the mo is that the rad fan will not work,
i connected it up to the battery and it ran so i'm just gonna fit a relay and switch to get it working for now,
any ideas on what it might be????

The main fan already has a relay and it is closed by the ECM (ECM grounds one relay coil wire [green/white]) when the temp sender under the MAF and on the front of the block says the coolant temp is 228F. Also, there is a pressure switch on the a/c that turns on the fan through the ECM when the a/c is turned on and the freon pressure exceeds 240 psi (compressor running). If you ground the fan relay grn/wh wire with the ign on, the fan relay should close and the fan should run. Check that first. The fan relay is below the brake master cylinder and on the firewall. It is common for the connector that plugs into the temp sender on the front of the block to wear out and you will need a scan tool to find out what temp the ECM is receiving from this sender.
well, what can i say,
the wires had been bubba'd big time,
the were two switches fitted in the green/white wires,
the problem turns out it's that the fan runs all the time,
time to get the multimeter out,
thanks so far guys,
