Default 85 V08 HD cooling option question

My 85 has the Heavyduty cooling option. I believe it should come on at 238 degress. My question is:

Should putting the ECM into field service mode cause the aux fan to come on? Mine doesn't, but the primary fan does. What would be the best way to test this circuit?

Thanks

The only thing that turns on the aux (front) fan is the switch on the pass. side head (near the back between the two rearmost plugs..). Test the circuit by disconnecting the wire at that switch and grounding it. The fan should then run (well, with the Key on, energizing the relay). The switch can be swapped out for another with a different "on" temp - I have a 200-205° in mine.... By itself the front fan will NOT keep the car cool - it really only works as a booster for the main fan - not much real use as far as I can see...

Thank you. With the 100+ degree weather coming up, I think I'll need every little bit of extra cooling. BTW the only switch I could find in this town was also the 205 degree.

That will have the auxiliary fan coming on before the main fan. As noted, it isn't all that effective, and the combination of that switch and the stock, main fan, on/off temps, will have that Aux fan running WAAAY too much of the time, wearing it out prematurely.

RACE ON!!!
