I tried searching the threads...couldnt find exactly what I need.
Here's the the question...long form.
I have 85'..emissions not an issue. I want to eventually get smog pump eliminator bracket. But in meantime...can I remove everything but the pump and cap of the 2 tubes coming off the exhaust manifolds?
Do I have to gut out the pump? Isnt it going to blow anything out of the connection/hose on the pump? And can I cut the two electrical connections that are a part of the smog config?
My smog pump is still on, but everything else AIR/emissions related is gone. I'm too lazy to install my AIR elim kit so I'll eventually sell it is it sits long enough in the garage. Heck, I even took off my EECS. It wasn't working properly anyways...
And MustangHunter, I did cut those electrical connectors to my AIR diverter valves. I taped up the individual ends and tucked them under the harness somewhere. It won't hurt anything. You don't need to gut the pump. It makes a good pool toy, beach ball inflator.
I'll keep the stuff in a box for when they do! lol
I understand where you're coming from though...but MI only tests around Detroit...they've been talking about expanding for about 15 years now...and still havent. But when they do...you'll see a thread from a bunch of us asking how do you re-install a smog pump...or does anyone have a smog pump for sale??!!!! lol
Considering that the Clean Air Act requires every State to have at least as much enforcement as the Federal Law, it's naive to say that a State doesn't have an emissions requirement. In your
State, who knows what might happen if someone went here:

Also not running a convertor.
Thanks for any help!

ken i stript everything, egr, egr sensor , air tubes, fuel emissions , air pump, plugged all the extra holes in TB..retuned and is running very well .. Except for the code 36 .. i just got...damm ..
I think emissions testing will start to slacken not get tighter. As gas prices soar it will get to expensive not to maintain your car in good running condition also people will switch to hybrid cars.
Well, mine were bad. I verified this because I felt it sucking in my finger, meaning it was sucking air. I plugged mine with rubber nipple caps I got from AutoZone. Or what would be better is to unscrew the check valves and ditch them and find some bolts of the right size and thread size to screw in. Then nothing will enter. One of these days, I may just cut off the AIR ports and weld a metal patch over them.
Just unscrew and remove that check valve. Take it with you to the hardware store, and find a metal cap that has the same threads. Use teflon tape or something else on the threads.
