A strange thing I have noticed theses last few days, when i start my 88 vert it cranks a long time before it starts. When it starts is very rough for a few seconds before it smooths out....Has anyone ever had this problem.
Some Info : the battery is new, the plugs are new the wires are new.ejectors have been cleaned, I do have a new IAC but have not installed yet........Oh yea for the first time in a month after everyone help me my SES light came on after i got it started.but I have not had a chance to check the code yet will probably do it this weekend...Light went out though after i restarted the car.
The IAC has nothing to do with starting. Pull the code(s) and correct the CAUSE, not just the symptom. The most effective means of curing most trouble codes, is to follow the appropriate trouble shooting chart in the FSM. It takes air, fuel, and spark to make the engine run. What is missing? More often than not, it is fuel. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and gather the full gamut of readings. What is the pressure before you touch the car? What happens when you turn the key, before you start cranking it? What happens when it's cranking, when it starts? And how fast does the pressure drop when you shut off the engine?
Don't know about that CFI-EFI, the cold start valve canal also goes through the IAC, per FSM. Are you hearing the fuel pump relay priming the system when the key is turned on? And yes, you need to pull the codes.

Rick,
You are my guiding light.........you were the one that got me to buy the FSM and I sure did. I got the Helms...boy i can't tell you what I did with that Haynes manuel here,..... but it is gone.
Anyways, when I start the car I never really noticed if the pump is priming, but for the record I did change the fuel relay along with a bunch of others when i was researching the SES light for code32, but that was before I had the Helms Book .Turned out when I changed the intake gaskets.......( I had a leak) I forgot to hook up that damn little vacumm hose to the EGR valve solonid,.......amazing but it fixed my SES light problem and I have not had it for over month now.
I got it after trying to start the car cold in the am, it stalled out and thats when it stayed on. but your right I will check codes this weekend.and trouble shoot with the HELMS book!!!!!
If no codes show up, you can test the CSV. Disconnect the CSV harness and test the harness itself. This has to be done first thing in the morning before the car is cranked for the first time. Use a test light and place it into the harness terminals, then turn the key to crank the engine. If the tester lights up then you are getting power to the CSV. If not then it could be the thermal time switch in the front on the intake manifold or a blown CSV the fuse behind the DIC (5a).
glad you got them, I know you're handy and now with the FSMs you're not only gonna save $$$$, but some of this can actually be fun. Well, just read RRTs post, and I only commented on the IAC because the CSV cannal actually runs through there, and that damn thing , the IAC is known to carbon up.
