WOuld this oil cooler adapt to the 94-96 LT1? Or would the earlier C4 (86-88?) be better to use? Just a thought, rather than pay the big $$ for an aftermarket one.............
TIA
I don't know about the Impala cooler. But I do know about the stock cooler from the '86 Z51 Vette. It is just an oil warmer. It will not cool the oil down. Trust me, I know this from experience! I have the one that was on my car in a box in the garage, you're welcome to have it if you want me to ship it postage due. It's junk. If the Impala is the same type (circulates coolant around fins that have the oil circulating in them) then forgetaboutit. Get a good oil cooler. They aren't that expensive when compared to an engine rebuild. Here's a couple shots of how/where I put my oil cooler in:
The hoses I use are Goodyear and I had them made at Pirtek. They press on the fittings with this huge machine, very cool and strong. I hate that braided hose with the Aeroquip fittings because it's too hard to get the hose cut, fittings put on, and you need to be VERY careful not to let the hose touch anything that will wear through the braids. Good luck with whatever you do. Cool oil is happy oil.
Bob...Did you notice a difference on the gauge from 1 cooler to the other? Was there a noticeable drop in the temp with the Earls cooler or was it negligable on the the gauge?
I'm of the opinion that "ANY" form of cooling is better than none. The SS cooler has to be better than no cooler, even on the SS. I raced for years and a 10-20 degree drop was ALL that was needed in most cases.
I have a 94 Fleetwood with an LT1 and it has a tranny and a oil cooler from the factory. The General has to be doing this for a reason......
Thanks for the input.........:
