Default Hot !!!!!hot!!! Headers

O.k I Have An 86 4speed Corvette She Looks Great, but The Headers Are Glowing ( Orange- Red Lkie) Like If You Just Welded Something Like It's On Fire. So Please If You Have Any Insight Into This Problem Or Ever Heard Of Such A Thing Happening To Any. I Put It On The Computer And Some Sensor Codes Came Up So I Changed Everything That I Could Think Of Plugs, Wires, O2 Sensor, Egr , Knock.. Some People Are Saying Timing But The Timing Light It's On The Money, But I Was Thinging Maybe The Distributor In Wrong, Please Any Help Would Be Thankful,, It's Been Another Expensive Corvette Problem..............thanks Again:

I wonder if a broken vacuum line would cause this. What were the codes?

You didn't mention the conditions when they're glowing. At idle? or at 2000 rpm, in the dark, or visible in daylight.

Another possibility is that the cam may be too far advanced causing early exhaust valve opening. Retarded ignition timing would also be suspected.

My tubes will glow a bit in the dark when holding 1800-2000 rpm with no load in neutral. I noticed this while packing my radiator in the dark once.

EGR problems could also cause higher combustion temps during light load operation.

Do you have cats?? If so, give them a look. If they are clogged you will get tremendous back pressure. All the other comments make sense as well. Good luck

You don't give much information. Is the car stock? When I first started up my 396 with an Ed Wright chip, the headers glowed orange but my set up is extreme. The timing (advance) table had to be increased...a lot.
