HELP!!!! Targa top disassembly
I'm new to this forum. Based on what I have seen in this forum, I think I have an early 86 model. Acrylic top has conical positioning pin. Found top cracked overnight just sitting in driveway. Bought a replacement solid top on E-bay cheap. Finished surface is in great shape and correct color but had three flaws. (1) - the mount is not compatible and looks like, I think, 89 - 96 (2) - top did not come with brackets and (3) - the frame is slightly cracked at a rear mounting location and begining to seperate from top. So much for cheap but like I said the finish is flawless. I was wondering how difficult it would be to seperate the tops from each frame so I can have one good assembly? Any directions or advice? What adhesive is used and where can I get? Would really like to get this accomplished before nice weather completely passes me by here in the northeast. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My best advise is to bring it to a glass shop/windshield repair and ask them if they can swap the roof panels.I honestly dont know how the top is mounted or what glue/bond they use,but Im betting its a urethane type adhesive similar to that found on windshields.
I had too many friends try to remove windsheilds and glass only to crack it somewhere...id leave it to a pro to take it off.Im imagining they have to heat it up and run some wire between the frame and the glass top to break the glue.Thats just a guess though...I imagine it isnt without risk...or you can have the glass shop take them off,and then tell you waht you need to bond it back on and do the final assembly yourself.

didn't think of a glass shop, thanks. I spoke with someone the other day that said a Duramax product is used to bond the top to frame. checked their web site and sure enough! waiting to see if manufacturer has info for me.
