Seems to be a bunch of AC issues going on!
First, thanks to all of you who helped me with my LCD problems with ny dash. Works perfectly now!
I have an 86 coupe with electronic climate control.
The compressor won't spin. Even when trying to re-load with r134 (it's a retro-fit).
I checked for voltage to the compressor and the voltmeter was reading either zero volts or it fluctuated wildly. I can jump power to the compressor and it spins and engages fine. So, I guess the compressor is OK.
Also, no matter where I set the climate controls to blow the air, all of the ducts (AC, defroster) blow air. The climate controller does not seem to be doing anything. Any ideas where I should start sniffing around?
Sounds like your pressure switch is disrupting power to the compressor/clutch, which it should do if system is empty. Otherwise it will burn up the compressor. Just adding freon to an empty system will also cause a compressor failure for lack of oil. Take it to shop that can inject esther oil and freon. If system is not empty then check for bad wiring connections at the pressure switch. In either case a leak check is adviseable.

If your system was in need of a recharge because it was low in freon, chances are you need to power up the a/c computer programmer. Disconnect the battery for a minute and connect again. This should program the system and the compressor should work normal.
