I've been looking at new jack-stands lately. I had to sell my old ones due to their 35th birthday and questionable construction. The old ones had a flat perch for the vehicle to sit on. When I put my C4 on them, I used a hockey puck on top as a cushion. I've been looking at new ones and they all seem to have a "V" or "U" shaped top. Any of them that are flat are either made for industrial use and very costly, or of a lower weight rating and don't look too stable.
So, here I am, asking what you guys use to hold up your C4's.
Thanks in advance...
I got my jack stands from Griots Garage for the same reason you mentioned. They have flat tops and four legs. Very strong. I also brought rubber covers for the flat tops. They were $50 a pair and very well made. A bit expensive but will last forever. I don,t want no car falling on my head.
The higher the load rating, and the larger the footprint, the better. Extra points awarded for Made in USA.
Personally, I prefer to not have a flat top. I see an advantage in having a bit of a cradle to rest the car into. And I'd be very leery of resting a vehicle on a hockey puck that's sitting on top of a jack stand...
Hi Bob,
Understand your delima. I purchased 2 sets of 3 ton jack stands from Sears that have a "V" instead of a flat top. I was able to find a sheet of very hard rubber 3/8" thick at a boat supply house and then used a hack saw to cut 1" x 4" strips that I lay, 1-each, on top of the jack stands. This seems to work well for me.
PS Love that million horsepower mod & it's disclaimer

Consider how high your jack will raise the car. I have some great
jack stands that I use for other cars I can lift with my floor jack, but I
use the OEM jack to raise the Corvette, so I stick with the small
footprint 2-1/2 ton style jackstands for this car.
The last set I bought are marketed by Michelin and have some nice
features like the rubber grips in the openings where I usually grab to
carry the stands.
I agree that the top of the jack ought to have a saddle shape.
SJW, i used to feel the same way until I tried it on my C4. If you set the jack stand beneath the jacking point and cushion it with the puck, you'll find the puck will deform and cushion the car as the weight is all along the narrow body seam.
