Getting stuff together to finally do my C4-C5 caliper conversion. The only thing I havent taken into consideration is how much brake fluid to buy. Since the stuff I am getting is $15/0.5L (Motul 600), I dont want to buy too much. Also, since I am not aware of anywhere local that sells Motul 600, I dont want to have to order more online and wait for it to come in. So:

1) What is the capacity of the brake system
2) How many times (on average) does the system have to be bled to get all the air out.

If the system has to be bled multiple times, I may just get the regular brake fluid to get the air out and then switch to Motul 600.

BTW, I plan to use one of these or some of these to bleed the brakes. If paying $90 gets the job done right with minimum fuss, then its worth it to me. If the $10 (x4) speed bleeders do the same thing as the $90 bleeder, then I am all for simplicity.

You might start with Valvoline Syn-Tech for the reasons you stated to flush and get the air out. Then order a qt. and you should have plenty left even after another complete purge and flushing. You would probably be fine with a qt. to begin with but this should guarantee no worries.

Cool. Thanks Corvette Kid NC.

Anyone have any input on the bleeders?

I'm not knocking speed bleeders but I've never seen the need for them. If I don't have a helper handy, I can gravity bleed a system from scratch and have no problems. The main trick is, never let the system (particularly the M/C) go completely dry and you won't introduce a lot of air into the system to begin with. Example: If I change a component such as a caliper or a line, I block it ahead of it and don't let the system completely drain. When I'm done, I do the progressive (from top to bottom) gravity bleed method and all is well. If there is any problem, a little conventional bleeding with an assistant should take care of it.

Gravity bleeding is so much easier and for the reasons stated a one man job.
