I just purchased a 94 vette with 130000 miles, all seems good, aside from worn leather seats, but i have noticed smoke coming out from under my car. I had it looked at and was told my trans pan is warped just a little, making it leak slightly. so the smoke could be the fluid hitting the exhaust, but my car sometimes feels very sluggish taking of from a start, like a brake is on ( had brakes check, they are fine)or its not going into first gear and just staying in second. at higher speed i dont notice any thing, just from a stand still. So with smoke and a sluggish feal to the car i am a bit worried, i am just a 22 year old mechaniac who got a hell of a deal and am afraid of the price any serious problems could be. any help would be appriciated.

I'm guessing- I don't know if you are talking about an auto or man trans. Sounds like an auto from what you are describing? With the mileage on your car, I'd get the tranny checked out. Could be a gear out or converter issue. What kind of smoke smell? Tranny oil and engine oil have very distinct burning smells. I'd start with the obvious and go from there.
I know I had, well still have, smoke coming out from underneath and from under the hood. It is an oil leak from my intake manifold. It is leaking at the rear and then dripping onto the exhaust. I am waiting for my FSMs before I attempt the repair. I have read alot of stuff on here about how to do it and it looks pretty straight forward. Mine is also a 94 and from what I have read the intake leaking is a well known problem. Good luck in your repairs. Keep us posted so some of us less experienced folks can store it in our "things to look for" books.
i just talked to the guys at corvette country( a local vette shop) and was told it sounds like a stopped up cat. and the smoke could very well be the intake. i will take it to them tuesday and let an expert take a look at it, probably a better choice than me doing it. I'll keep ya'll posted.
It'd be really nice if you filled in your profile a bit so we know about where Corvette Country is, and you, too. A first name would be real friendly and neighborly.
I am sorry. i will take care of that promtly. My name is Joe, corvette country is in austin near where i live. i will take care of my profile if you would like any more info.
