I am a newbie to the forum so bear with me. I have a 93 LT1 AT and about 49000 on the od. I take really good care of my baby and do most of the maintenance myself. I have had my vette for almost two years now and twice have experienced this problem. When there is a lot of moisture in the air and a good soaking rain she won't start. Last friday it took over twenty minutes for me to finally get her going. Damn near wore the battery out. The plug wires are packards so I am assuming that the wires and plugs have been replaced fairly recently. When the weather is dry she starts up right away no problem. Not sure if the opti was ever replaced but I fear that might be the reason. I have been careful not to get it wet and know that its something that usually does go bad. Is it time for me to start shopping for a new opti or could it be something else. On another note I also recently found that there is no PCV valve in the rubber grommet. Just a hose to the throttle body and a plastic elbow joint. Is this normal or should I make a stop at the chevy dealer for a valve? Your advice is greatly appreciate.
Hi I would really check the plug wires. My 93 used to do the same thing.Keep cranking and when you let off the switch it sounds like it fires for a couple turns of the crank.Keep cranking and it fires a little more each time until it finally starts.Thought I would burn starter up a couple of times.Packard is a OE wire so they could have never been changed.I would put another set of wires on before going the opti route.Just pray that the end of your coil wire does not pull off and stay connected to the cap.If this happens you may as well do the opti and water pump as there is no room to remove the broken off end.I don't mean to scare you but my simple 70.00 plug wire change ended up costing around 500.00 when it was all over.
