About a month ago I started my car and heard a grinding and whining sound. I listened closely and decided it was the smog pump. Replaced the smog pump and grinding noise is gone. But there is still a whine coming from somewhere else. It's the same sound. Sounds like it might be coming from the air pipe connected to the smog pump. The whine changes pitch with engine rpm and is most noticeable during idle. I assume it is air related. Thought maybe a piece of the old pump got jammed in the pipe? Don't know where to start looking. Any ideas?
I'm not trying to insult your intelegence here, so please don't take this the wrong way, I can't spell so I'm no genius. Have a good look at the hoses going to and from the power steering resavoir, the hose clamps that GM uses are a little strange and the screw is pretty long and can come in contact with the pulley directly behind it. I found this on my
'90 and tie wrapped it the cross member in front of it. I know that you already spent money on another smog pump, but one of the Corvette supply houses makes a real pretty idler pulley made of billet aluminum to replace the smog pump. That's of course if your State will let you do that.
