Last night on my way home from work my 91 started acting up. Actually sounds like a I have a few problems, just wanted to get some ideas before I bring it in to the shop. I've had the car for 5 years, only 34K on the clock, and its been tip top from day one.
Rough idle and stalls out when at a stop, worse when clutch depressed, feels weak when accelerating. Also getting a rattling from the shifter when in neutral, and a metal rattling sound when in 6th going under 65mph. Car was last tuned 5K ago, but that was also about 4-1/2 years ago. Just had the diff/trans fluid changed last fall, along with fuel filter change.
Does it do this when the engine is cold and warm? Could be IAC, TPS, or O2 sensor. Pull PVC valve and shake it, should rattle. Any intake or engine work done recently? Is SES light on? The shifter rattling could be from the rough running engine.
How long did it sit without being run? Was the tank full while it sat? I'd suspect water in the fuel which can form if it's not topped off while it sits. Siphon (from the bottom of the tank) or disconnect the feed line at the rail or filter and squirt a pint or so into a jar. Let it sit for about an hour. If there's water, it will separate out on the bottom. Otherwise, scan and check your BLM's - lean can indicate water.
