My dad and i recently took our 89 vette to indianapolis to watch bump day for the indy 500. on the way down we had zero problems with the car and all was alright. however, on the way back about half way home we noticed the stereo was begining to flicker on and off and would occasionally turn completely off for a few mintues. once it got dark enough for head lights we noticed the lights for the gas mileage and driving distance switches had also gone out. as we continued to drive home the car's tail lights, but not break lights, aswell as the lights that turn on when the turning signals come on went out. the headlights, climate control, door lights, and dashboard lights all still worked however. we were both baffeled as to what was happening and i was hoping someone could provide me with some insight to this problem. any and all advice/comments would be appreciated.
Hmm, don't think that was the voltage reading as it's a 12 volt electrical system and I wouldn't expect to ever see voltage readings over 15.
It certainly sounds like it could be an intermittent ground, but I don't know the best way to isolate the bad ground (hopefully others could chime in with their experience).
Here's an odd question: When the radio is out, does the cigarette lighter work? Last weekend I learned that they're covered by the same fuse, so that could help locate the problem.
