Default error code 41 on 90 vert. Can anyone help.

I know what this code is (loss of ECM serial data communications), but don't know if there are any "no cost" things to try to fix whatever is wrong. Not even sure where the ECM is located.Car runs fine and no other codes or problems. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

Code 41 in my 1990 Helms manual says "Cylinder Select Error (Faulty or incorrect mem-cal)"

Have you had a custom chip put in by anyone?

If not, then you either need to re-seat the chip in the ECM or buy a new mem-cal and replace it. Also check that no pins are bent on the connector for the mem-cal in the ECM.

The ECM is located under the hood just above the battery. To get to the mem-cal, you just loosen the two 10mm bolts that you can see, then there is another one under the bracket that you'll need to get a nut off of. Flip the ECM over (you don't need to remove the harness and wiring) and there is an access cover. Remove the bolts on the access cover with either a 1/4 inch or 7mm socket (I forget which). THe memcal is the blue thing in there. It has locking tabs at each end that you'll push on to pop the mem-cal up. Good luck!

My book says that code 41 is a cylinder select error. The ecm is under the hood on the drivers side just above and to one side of the brake booster and the master cylinder, it's the little rectangular black box. Check the connectors on the back of the ecm and make sure that they are on tight. You might want to even unplug all of them and spray electronic parts cleaner into the connectors to clean them out. You can also remove the prom chip inside of it and them reinstal it incase it has corrosion on it's connection. Thats all my book said about the 90. Good luck.

If you are talking about the CCM code 41 most likely will have to replace the ECM.
