Default Haltech/Aftermarket Computers

I am going to be putting a Haltech E6GM into my car (when the time comes).

I know a few things (fuel stuff) dont work with this system. I am wondering if the English/Metric switch panel is still functional. As well as which lights in the Dummy display still will get used (low coolant? doors? etc etc)

If anyone has installed this or another aftermarket system into their car and can enlighten me a bit I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

Many of the gauges and lights you mentioned are totally independent of the ECM. Your E/M switch will still function properly for those functions, i.e. your oil, speedo, and temp gauge will be ok. Most of what you'll loose is related to the fuel data calculations that rely on the output from the ECM. -Jeff

Why spend the money on the Haltech and lose the knock sensor when you can easily control your setup with a custom chip?

Mostly because of all the problems everyone has with the tuning. And the shop that will be dyno tuning the system prefers haltech. Only going to be $100 or so more then a custom Z-Industries chip I was looking at getting made. And with the Haltech I can hook up my laptop and play. I am also at stage 1 in upgrades. Stage 2 will probably consist of heads and intake. Then there might be stage 3 at some point, which will be forced induction. The Haltech makes stuff alot easier to do for the future upgrades.

At some point I will be upgrading to a fully tunable system with its own harness, and use the Haltech on either a custom project (motorcycle) or sell it. But for now the E6GM fits the budget and fits the tuners experience.

So stuff like the security system, ABS, low Coolant, and all those will still work properly? (the telltale as I see its called). I plan to experiment in a custom center dash panel, getting rid of the vents, moving the stereo, mounting some gauges (EGT, AFR, possibly a Knock one too, just for the hell of it).

:chevy

Will it work with forced induction? I have heard that it is not going to work with turbos or supercharger.

According to Haltech it will. Supports a 1, 2 or 3 bar MAP sensor. On their site they mention that it allows forced induction upgrades easily.

The problems everyone has with tuning comes from not knowing what they're doing. If you're in that boat and don't want to learn, having someone else program the Haltech may be the answer. I don't understand how the Haltech is easier for future upgrades. You can reburn with your stock ECM until you get it right. The only thing the stock ECM is tougher with is forced induction or nitrous, although there are many fixes in the works.

BTW, you'll definately want some kind of knock sensor alert as the Haltech doesn't have one. Also, an AFR guage is useless unless it's wideband.
