Default Transmission stuck in first

I have a 92 C4 automatic. Several days ago, the transmission would not shift out of first gear no matter what I tried. I drove it around for 20 minutes, let it sit, and then checked the fluid. The fluid was fine. I drove it again and the shifting returned to normal. My thoughts are that a valve might be clogged in my transmission? I am totally ignorant on transmissions, so any advice on what to do is appreciated!!

On the drivers side of the trans there is a round rusty cove. It houses the governor. The governor is driven off the output shaft of the trans. The gear on the end of the governor is nylon and can break. If this is the case, the gear can be replaces and the chunks cleaned out of the bore. The valve in the governor must work smooth and slick. Check this first. It is likely your problem. If you need help, just ask.
