Default Windshield wiper problems

I bought my '91 a couple of months ago. Of course, it started raining pretty heavy on the way home from buying it. I used the wipers and didn't have any problems over the next few weeks. Suddenly last Friday on the way to not-sunny California, the driver's side started getting stuck on the A-pillar. I had to roll down the window and push it over and it would be fine for awhile. This happened 5 or 6 times during the trip down and back and always at freeway speeds. I was meaning to make an adjustment, but forgot. This morning on the way to work, it got stuck again, but when I pushed it back onto the windshield, it didn't recover like before. I noticed that the passenger side was sticking out past the pillar, too. I pulled over as soon as I could but smelled what I believe must have been the motor burning up. Even with the control turned off the motor must stay on trying to bring them back to the retracted position. I pushed the passenger side back on, but it was still stuck. I went to the driver's side and pushed a little harder. It felt like it pushed past some sort of sticky spot and then they dropped back into place. I left them off until I got to work and was stopped. Now they don't work at all. Don't really need troubleshooting advice yet, as I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is going to be for right now. Just wanted to let others know, if your blades start sticking, don't use them until you can make an adjustment or you might lose the motor, too. I'm hoping I blew a fuse, but that doesn't seem likely...
