C4 Break lights

C4 Break lights
Every once in a while after I turn the car off and walk away, the break lights remain on. I go back, tap the break pedal, but ultimately have to remove the 20v fuse from the box to make the lights go off. 10 minutes later I can put the fuse back in and the lights stay off and work normally when I drive.
I took it to the dealership and they didn't find anything wrong.
Any ideas?

I would check the Brake light switch it sounds like it is getting stuck. You can pick one up at your local dealer. You could check this by locating it and unplugging the connecter to the switch and return to the rear of your Vette and see if they are OFF or ON. This will be a good base line to begin with. You didn't mention what year your car is, but I would venture a guess that the problem is with the switch mounted on the brake pedal. On my 91, the third brake light didn't work, and I traced it back to the switch. For my car there were actually two switches, one for the main brake lights, and another for the third brake light which also sent a signal to anti-lock system. These switches are basically plunger actuated which means when the brake is in the normal position (not applied), the plunger is depressed breaking the circuit, and when the pedal is pressed, the plunger opens completing the circuit. These switchs are only around $12-$15 dollars a piece, HOWEVER, they aren't much fun to replace because of their location, and they will act up intermittently before they give out all together, which leads me to believe this MIGHT be your problem.
