Is it a steady pitched whine, or does it rise and fall with engine revs like a blower or gear drive? Does it do it when starting, idling, driving, accelerating, deccelerating, or all the time that the engine is running? Cold or hot? In gear or not? Did it just start happening?
the noise is constant but rises and falls when accelerating. Strange that I can also hear it thru my speakers when the radio is turned on. It did just start happening.
Remove the belt and run the engine for mo more than 20 seconds to test it. If it goes away when the belt is removed, it is an accessory. Likely the alternator.
