Is it necessary (or recommended) to replace the stock Throttle body on a 1990 L98 when doing engine mods? I see a lot about going to a 58mm one, but I've also heard people say that is in not necessary. I will be replacing Intake, cam, and exhaust on a currently stock l98 (with planned headwork as well).
I opted to go with a 52mm on my L-98 with bolt on performance parts. I immediately felt a difference, well I also put on a set of 24lb injectoers at the same time with the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It seemed to really appreciate the new parts. Just remember that when you put on a 52mm or 58mm(which 58mm not necessary unless doing extreme mods to motor) you will have to port the intake at the front, there is a ramp at the bottom that needs to be grinded down and on the sides as well as the inlet holes will need to be gasket matched. To get a good idea of what it looks like you can visit www.corvetteplenum.com Hope this helps, I did my own by going to the hard ware store and buying two metel drimmel type grinding tips(for my high speed drill one flat, one rounded as well as a stone grinding kit) it's not hard to do just be careful not to take too much off,GO SLOW! Your Vette will love it. Thanks Matt
If you e-mail me I can give you the place that bored out my stock throttle body, rebuilt the shaft and installed the new 52mm blades.
It only cost me 149.00(I went ahead and opted to do mine on exchange basis) plus core exchange 59.00 you get this back via PayPal(he uses PayPal) no charge after you send yours back to him.
