electrical ?
New 1989 owner, with a problem.Had to put new battery in when it died.Thats done, however saw before and after that the digital read out in car was around 10.5 to 11.8 volts.Checked at autozone in car and at battery getting 13.5. Took alt. out and on bench reading 13.8

Sounds like somewhere you have a wire that the insulation has worn off and now it is grounding out.
Look around the exhaust mainfolds on both sides. I seem to remember on my 88 several on the drivers side that were real close to the manifold.
