Default Anyone using Spal fans?

I'm about to put a new Ron Davis radiator in my car to help cope with the 383 and the AZ summer heat and was wondering if anyone here have used Spal fans before? My fans are factory original (read 100K miles) so I figured I might as well replace them while I'm in there...are there any fans out there that are better then the stock ones? I've heard good things about Spal, but not sure which ones would fit? Thanks in advance for any help!

DeWitt has a nice twin fan setup in a housing that I believe is
a drop-in for later C4's (and reportedly needs very minor trimming for
an '89.) These go well with their rads - I considered getting one when
I bought my DeWitt radiator but elected to see how much the rad
helped first. I'm really pleased with the improvement from the rad
alone, but I know Tom DeWitt has the fan packages if I want more
cooling while waiting in line.

A couple of my other cars have OEM Spal fans. Quiet and trouble-free.
Spal makes superior items.

I Put A Dewitt Radiator In My 95, With The Spal Fan Package. A Little More Work Was Required In The Later C4 Set Up, But Dewitt Makes The Fan Adaptor For You.

I Dont Know How Efficient The Radiator Alone Would Have Been, But With The Fan Package I Am Very Happy. Temps Run Ten Degrees Cooler While Moving And Cool Down Rapidly After Sitting In Traffic.

Im Very Happy.

Hey Jay,
The Ron Davis with the stock fans did wonders for my car. Is Trevor going to help with the install?

Hey Marcus! I'm replacing the fans with new ones either way, I just thought I'd see if there were any more efficient fans out there before I went through the trouble! Oh, and you can bet Trevor will be over getting his hands dirty...hw owes me!!

I'll probably do the install over at Bill B's (ZFDoc) place...Bill is very good at getting Trevor motivated when he strays from the job!

Does anyone have the cfm ratings of the Spal fans and the OEM fans to compare?

I would be highly interested in putting a higher cfm fan on with my stock radiator.
I don't know about others, but my problem is airflow through the radiator at idle and low-speed. The capacity of my stock radiator is more than sufficient.

I felt the same way. The problem is/was particularly acute when
I'm staged with others, waiting to make a run.

However, I elected to start with the rad because my car already has
OEM dual fans. When the condensor and rad fins are clear, these
fans can move some air.

I do not know the CFM capability of the OEM fans. But DeWitt has a
listing of the various Spal fans and technical data including CFM's
at different static pressures is provided for each fan. Drill into the
details for a fan, then click 'Download Specifications'.

Can't tell you how much difference there is in CFM because I do
not know the OEM ratings.

For me, the primary benefit of going to the DeWitt/Spal twin fan is
that this adds a second puller fan that seems an improvement over
the OEM pusher fan in several ways: it has more blades, it is larger
and it has a shroud.

Plus, there is nothing to prevent me from retaining the pusher for
a total of three fans. I am sure such a set-up would enable me
to earn income from my municipality by cleaning streets. The
downside is that small children and animals would be endangered.

For competition, the front pusher fan could be removed for a minor
improvement in polar moment. The twin Spals could be wired to my
'89's two fan control systems to retain the OEM engagement pattern.

However, for now, in my climate, the radiator upgrade is sufficient.
YMMV.

I try to retain this post up because I have a 90, and for what I understand the 90 is a dual fan. Not a single fan with an additional aux fan.
Right?
I have two fans that are big the same and both are in the engine compartement and PULL air. RIGHT?
Is my 90 configuration stocl like this?
I programmed the chip to start both at about 190.
It seems that there is non enough power at the fan to cool the engine at the lower temp where the chip is programmed to stop .

My vote is no, a '90 with an L98 did not come from the factory
with twin fans BEHIND the radiator. I believe that up until '91, dual
fans meant one pusher ahead of the A/C condensor and one puller
behind the radiator on the L98 cars.

I believe the '90 ZR-1 had dual fans in a shroud behind the rad, and
these also appeared in '92 on the LTx powered cars.

I don't know...
both fans are in the same shroud , IN the engine compartment, and for SURE both fans PULL air
The passenger one (if I remember) it's a bit higher (more room from ground...).Someone else with a '90 can chime in..
