I started my 95 I hear something I've never heard before, I'm thinking that is a weird sound. sounds like something rattling like a loose muffler. I pull into the garage and go to shut the car off and the starter will not disengage from the engine! I try turning off the ignition again, it won't quit! so, thinking if this starter doesn't get shutoff soon the next thing i'm gonna see is a fire, because starters aren't meant to run for extended periods. I pull off the positive battery lead to kill the engine. I take a looksee under the car and bang on the starter a couple of times, hook up the battery leads and it fires up, like nothing happened.
I guess I scared the gremlin off. I hope he don't show back up
Has any of you experienced such an event? appreciate the help :seeya
You might want to keep a wrench inside the consol just incase the gremlin shows up somewhere else besides when you are pulling into your garage.
:D :D :D :D :D
The bendix was stuck in keeping the starter engaged to the fly wheel. I would change that starter ASAP. It is going to happen again. Next time it could do damage to the flywheel. Thats more money. The trans would have to come down.
Good luck.

I pulled the starter. i don't feel any unusual binding in the bendix. could it have been in the steering column. the rod that activates the plunger in the steering column hanging up when you turn the key? I cant find anything unusual with the starter, except it's a pricey piece of japenese technology(nippendenso).
The rod locks the steering wheel with the key out and has nothing to do with the start function on the ign sw. I would lubricate everything on the solenoid mechanism that engages the pinion and put it back together. Rare, but you could have a defective start contact on the ignition switch that makes contact even when the ign sw is not in start position. See what if it happens again.
Just a thought, but he made it sound like the starter was running while the car was in gear as it continued while he pulled into the garage. Assuming no bypasses, wouldn't this eliminate the possibility of the problem being in the ignition switch as it goes through the P/N switch on it's way to the Solenoid? It sounds like it would have to be a Starter/Solenoid problem.

It works like a champ! :yesnod: I guess the old starter was tour complete. I'm always surprised at how long automobile parts last in comparison to Aircraft parts. I see the same parts going out on a month to month basis at work. Thanks for everyone's input.
