Hurst Shifter Install Pics
Anyhow....
I did end up dropping the exhaust and it made it so much easier to work on. It really wasn't that much trouble either. My lower dust boot is missing and I have searched high and low for one and could not find it, so I put it together without one. I guess it also made the job easier to do. I will be driving this as a daily driver and I hope the lack of this boot won't cause me problems later down the road.
I only posted the pics I thought were really necessary. These are the pics of the things I was most concerned about.
I really fretted about which Pin I was supposed to knock out. I did have to take a drill and drill up into it about 1/8 of an inch. This made it much easier to get my punch to seat to allow me to knock it up. I could not get it to budge before this because the punch kept slipping off. I was concerned that beating on this Pin would mess up the seal where the shaft comes out to mate up to this pin. I'm not experiencing any leakage and have not found this to be a problem with anyone else. The Pin is supposed to have a Wire Ring surrounding it in the grove. Mine did not have this. I did put a Snap Ring in place there when I put it back together. When you do get this Pin out, it is a bit of a pain to lift the shifter assembly up from the carrier. It looks as though it is too wide because of the Side Pin. You have to hold your tongue just right to get it out.

I really fretted over which way to install the shifter. As far as I'm concerned the instructions that come with the shifter are crap. I need good pics not a description of how it's supposed to be installed. Most men I know hate reading instructions and Mr. Gasket's engineers don't know this I guess.

I hope this will help someone else with this install if they so chose to do it. I'm sure if I HAD to do this again I would because I hate to pay someone to do something I can do.

Sorry to hear you had some trouble. I did mine when I replaced the rear tranny seal (the first attempt) and the shifter install went smoothly.

Props to you installing it and thanks for the pics
