Now that I got the car running good comes the fun. In this pic the air coming in goes into the pockets and back out causeing a huge turbulance. I dont care what they say about the device that covers the pockets and smoothes the air coming in,but I got to think it has to help--What do you think guys
Negative good buddy, If you are refering to a Air Foil. I had a air foil in my 86 TB and it caused a decreased air flow to the IAC passage. I is just a plain waste of money. Doesn't do much for turbulance either. If the air foil is what you talking about.
the idea is sound, until you realize that at speed, the air will pocket that area and create a low pressure eddy that will create an invisable air foil.
Blah, I say try it and let us know! I have to wonder the same thing as the Kid ! I once installed dual points in an earlier Ford (JC Whitney) and guys were confused, but it worked...so, if you've got a few extra bucks, and wanna have some fun, let us know!..
everybody likes to pick on the airfoil, but I wonder if it doesn't help part and full throttle EFFICIENCY, rather than an actual increase in "HP."
Meaning at WOT it may not create a repeatable difference, but similar to using smooth air ducts to reduce turbulence I'm curious if it doesn't give you a slight boost in economey via an increase in part-throttle HP?
Hard to measure part-throttle gains though. I never had an idle problem with mine on a 383 and a stock TB.
I can't help but wonder though. If it doesn't do any good, why are all of the aftermarket TBs already designed that way?
But I do wonder what bogus said about the IAC . I see some of them have a hole on the bottom to let air in to the IAC. Nothing but rain in ct. it sucks, so I have alot of time to think of things like thisPS my computer is so slow I didnt see Aardwolfs pic, which shows the hole for the IAC, now I wonder how it screws up the IAC

Reason: add stuf
I bought it like many do, soon as I got my vette not knowing any better or worst....I would say, if you got a few extra bucks and don't mind it....it can't hurt. I have had mine on since 99. No problems with anything which includes, the IAC or TPS. I threw no codes and only difference I noticed was that at WOT or 3/4 throttle the engine seems to whistle a little different. At the TB of course, sounds kinda cool. I have seen and read so many things on it. Only logical conclusion I have come to is DON'T PAY THE $40 OR $50 Bucks brand new....You can find these things everywhere. On this site, other sites, that auction site, etc etc. I got one for $10bucks, the guy said it made a good paperweight but he had a few.
Save the wave

Make it a jug and Im in, smokin the tires all the way to ricks house for cocktails PS where the heck would the tornado go, wooo no wise cracks. OK of to my dads 79th birthday party he dosnt drink and I do so who do you think is going to have more fun
Hi.
I have an 85 and did not know about the discussions about the airfoil. I did not feel any change. The air do flow easier through the throttlebody. I believe in TPIS and other measurements, but what everybody seems to forget is that the airfoil only works with the 11hp gain if it is the throttlebody that limits the airflow. If you have any other obstruction in the chain of airflow from the air filter through the MAF , plenum intake and heads then it is that that limits the max airflow. The airfoil will not make things worse. If the idle air opening in the airfoil is little (if that is your concern) then open it up a bit more. TPIS has issued a flowchart to see the different influences in the intake chain. If you see at the airfoil measurement then you see that the airfoilmeasurement is done with a fully modified engine which means that the throttlebody will restrict the airflow.
To make the airflow better or easier through different parts never has been wrong.
Another case is to spend 40$ on this item on a stock engine. The throttlebody is enough for 300+ hp. I know that there are different views on this.
So my conlusion is that the airfoil cannot hurt the performance at all. Then I am speaking of the airfoils that you fix with a bolt on the throttlebody not the ones that you just put in to the hose just before the throttlebody opening.
I was thinking about buying a k&n filter but do you have to cut out the filter box? For the first time in my life Im trying to keep a car stock( Its killing me not to hot rod this thing ) or at least be able to put it back to stock without any permenent mods
