I have a 95 coupe that otherwise rides fairly quietly (at least for a Vette). However, when the engine heats up to the point where the fans kick in (e.g., when running the a/c or after sitting at idle on a hot day), I start getting a pretty loud creaking coming from under the car. It is very noticeable inside the car and sounds like a rusty hinge or something when going over any bumps or waves in the road. When the engine cools down a bit, the creaking goes away.
I figure it is not suspension as the noise would be there all the time. I want to bring the car to my local shop for some other things and want this taken care of as well but it would be nice to point them in the right direction. My own theory is that it could have something to do with the hangers for the exhaust components--as the exhaust gets hotter, the pipes are expanding more and causing stress or rubbing on the hangers.
Does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions?
From spending 10 years of time on this forum, I came to the conclusion that most C4 owners came across the same problems as these cars age. So I just figured there would be a bunch of others who have experienced this weird problem.
