Is there any power loss when changing to a set of Flowmasters on 92-96lt1/4 cars? I assume there would be some loss in power due to a chambered design v.s. the lt1/4's straight through stock design which flow excelent for stock.
Would the LT1/4 benefit at all with 2 chamber flows or just go backwards?
I had 2 chanber flows on my 95, at the same time I had removed the resonator and had it replaced with straight pipes...
If I were to do it again I would have put in a X as far forward as practical. My 95 had 2.59 rear end in it and around 1800 rpm's the drone wouls about drive you out of the car.
In terms of performance, I felt I lost a litle of the bottom end, but then again that could have been as a result of removing the resonator.
Mo, on my 95 6 speed, someone had already removed the resonater and put pipes to the mufflers. The drone was pretty bad, and I had an x pipe put on far forward. From 1500 to 2000 rpm's the drone was so much worse with the x pipe that I replaced the whole exhaust with a Flowmaster cat back Force Two system just to be able to stay in the car for more than five minutes(Great sound and no drone).
I thought that the x pipe would help the drone, but not in my case. One hundred and sixty bucks down the drain....
The LT1/4 stock exhaust bottle necks down to 2.25 RIGHT before the mufflers... going to 2.5" mufflers you can cut into the 2.5" pipe on the stock exhaust and weld the mufflers there... technically a 300HP motor should be running dual 2.5" exhaust anyway... - - When I put my flowmasters on I also gutted my cats... I can only say that I had gained power... even more now that I have removed the resonator for x-pipe... (before the x-pipe I had no resonance ... now I have resonance around 1800rpm, which isn't much of a problem with my 6speed - - - if you drive in that range on the highway [I don't] it could get annoying for some people...) - - My Flowmasters are Super 40s on a 95 LT1... - - I'll post an old sound clip once I re-upload it on putfile... (at any rate - for me it is still no where near loud enough... my stock Ferrari in the avatar was much louder in stock form than the Vette is even now... I plan to do SWs long tubes this summer - - that should help)
Would you guys who own a Flowmaster Force II catback be kind enough to expand a little more on your experiences?
Questions....
- Is your C4 stock?
- Is it auto or stick?
- Does it drone (Flow Force II) any at all?
- Does the system install without any fitment problems?
- Does the system look good from the rear and do the tips stick out past the rear lower body panel like the B & B, Corsa and other aftermarket systems?
...and finally, where did you buy your Force II catback? Also, I don't like the sliver galvanized color of the Force II system, so I guess you could spray paint it with hi temp black paint.

thanks gusy for the feed back. I have 3" 2chamber flows on the rear and a 3" x-pipe in place of the resonator. It does drone some but the flows aren't even loud. Im not looking for more noise, just more HP. I think replacing the stockers with a higher flowing straight through design muffler would be my best bet. A Magna-Flow,Borla,Corsa,Billy Boat style systems i think would make more hp/tq than the flowmaster systems.

I might try Magna-Flows and Hooker super comps.
In this case the other systems you mention aren't going to make much difference at all... do long tubes for a tq/hp increase... then get a tune from PCMforless...

i wish i could do long tubes but cali emissions won't allow it. No C.A.R.B. legal long tubes which sucks.
as far as more hp/tq,im guessing a slight difference in perfomance like 10 rwhp max from changing mufflers. Im just not a flowmaster guy anymore, just want a different sound and a few more ponies. I think i'll just save my money for the hooker super comps that are legal.

10RWhp is asking a lot from just mufflers on a stock LT1... The stock system actually flows quite well... No exhaust modification (excluding long tubes) is going to give you a better "bang for your buck" increase as saving the money for engine modifications... My next mod after long tubes will be the LT4 hotcam kit (with RRs etc.). Perhaps that is what you should look towards installing (with an appropriate tune from PCMforless)

My car is not stock, gears, convertor, 1.6 rockers, cam.
automatic
it drones, X pipe will help this, it drones at the resonator
Forget the cat back buy 40 series or 50 series if you want it milder
you can have them welded on and reuse the facotry LT1 tips
Using the factory tips and some black paint it looks stock from behind
Sounds mean just my .02 but the factory exhaust isn't restrictive for a 300 h.p. car so the cat back in my backyard mechanic opinion isn't worth the extra $$

JD, thanks a great idea! I can just buy the mufflers, the 50 series, then this should give me a better sound. Sorry to hijack thsi thread and will repost as my own thread.
