Finally fixed fuel tank vent
-ss and fixed the gas tank vent line this week end on my 86. As I have read on the forum, the steel vent line was indeed mostly blocked near the tank. Additionally all the rubber lines that attach to it were rotten .
What is interesting about this fix was that I was able to unblock the steel vent line by forcing PB Blaster into the line with air pressure. After it sat for about 30 min, I was able to blow all kinds of rust and crud out of the line . It then was open and free.
Whoopeeee!! no more gas smell and no more whoosh when I open the gas cap!! The bad news is that I found what appears to be a leak from the pinion seal on the differential. It is bad enough to get oil on the exhaust. Next project !!!
