How many of you have ever removed inter spring on dual valve springs during cam break in?I never herd of it till yesterday, that really sucks PITA. My cam is Hyd. flat tappet, Comps xfi 520/515 268/280 the springs are slightly used comp cam hi tec dual spring with damper. Let here what you guys think .Take them out or leave em in.
Flat tappet cam must be broke in without the inner springs - otherwise you run the risk of wiping the cam out due to high spring pressure. Run the car at 2200 rpm for 20 minutes for break-in, then you can install the inner springs. Yes, this is fairly labor intensive. The alternative (ruin the cam) is much more labor.
Roller cam - no need to remove inner springs for break-in.
