Default Lower drivers seat-need headroom

Has anyone seen a kit to lower the drivers seat. I'm 6'5" and my head is touching the headliner with the seat all the way back. 1989 Coupe manual adjusting seat.

5 foot six I have the opposite problem. If there is a bracket that the seat slides on You might be able to have a metal shop take a piece out of the middle and tack it back together. I have the sport buckets with all the air bag stuff so Im not messen with that

I've heard that the clear top (as opposed to the solid one) allows for 2" more of headroom. Something to consider...

I am 6' 4" and could not drive a vert with the top up, and I am cramped in a car w/o a clear roof. I would love to see a way to lower my seat I guess you wou have to cut and reweld the seat supports?

I think that would be the only way, I had my 89 seats out looking at the brackets to mount race seats I didn't see any way besides cut & weld.

I am 6'2" and have the Wet Okoles seat covers. this raised me up to about where you probably are.
I removed my sun visors. This didn't help with head or leg room, but the difference is like night and day on how much you can see.
Like when your sitting at a stop light and trying to see when it changes.
It also cleans up the look when the top is off.
They are very easy to put back on. You'll just need to buy new hardware.( $8.00 @ Corvette Central)
Damn, it's also easier to take off and put on the top.
Let us know if and how you lower your seat please and thank you.

I had my sport seats redone last year, and I noticed the roof got a lot lower as a result. The uphosterer hog-ringed in a cloth piece to the frame under the seat cushion, and I don't think there was one there before. I have heard of others adjusting or removing that cloth support to allow the cushion to drop a little. Non-destructive and reversible; it might be worth a try.

Thanks Rich, I'll pull the seat when I get the car back from the shop next week and see if there are some unneccesary "layers" under there.

manual seat tracks from a pontiac fiero or full size chevy vans75-95 are only about 1-1/4'' high, van tracks are ez find at j-y....flat bar(we use 1/4x2 mild steel) with a hole on each end at all mounting points will allow everything to line up, just leave all the flat bars a bit loose until the seat is in and then probe under with the wrench to tighten...making a sheet metal copy of the bolt hole layout of the seat, to get all the little flat bars rite length, is recommended if you are new to this kind of thing

was gonna put fiero seats in my 86 to save the almost perfect originals, would have needed to raise the fieros about 3'' (i am 6-3)...we have seat swaps on a bunch of stuff, really a piece of cake with the flat bar adapters that move all over

Bubba,
I'm kinda new to Vette's. What the hell is a frisbee and how do you remove it?

On the water pump pulley there is a heavy disc attatched to the front of it. Just take off the belt, take off the "frisbee-type-thingy" then tighten your bolts, and put back on your belt.
I think the "frisbee" is there to dampen the vibration of the a/c cycling on and off. It's just a power robber.
I'll post pics later if you need them.
Good luck

If it's not a lot of trouble that would be great. Thanks for the quick reply.

i'm digital camera challenged, can't do pics until my daughter teaches me how--how do you slow down a college kid on summer vacation?

what you need are four pieces of flat bar(for ea seat) about 2 or 3 inches long as req'd with 3/8'' holes at each end (nice sloppy fit for the metric seat bolts) and four 5/16 bolts/nuts for flat bar/track attachment, and maybe four more same for track/seat attach but many only need new holes drilled in the track....you may want to bend/adjust the wire that releases the second adjuster lock on the other track for the van/fiero track or just tie open--the vette track only locks one rail

So I should be looking for a seat track out of a feiro first?

get the tracks first, it's almost self-explanatory when you get em in front of ya....get the van tracks--much more common = cheaper--the fieros have a light gauge steel tab in front that may be useful or be a pita depending on what you do with em and the fieros are abt 1/2'' higher...beware of the spring-assist on some of the tracks that will snap like a mousetrap if you pull the release (never seen anyone bit by one but its amusing to watch rookies, as long as they aren't in the line of fire, when one snaps next to their fingers)
