any one have an idea of the cost to replace ALL seals on my 85 vette. Tranny is leaking and mech says to replace al seals. What is involved and how much we talking in cash. Hate to to put more money into it.
All of the external seals are worth $40 tops. However, labor to remove and replace trans will vary from $300-$500. Then add time to replace them once it is on the bench. Sadly, I would expect a shop to charge $500-$600 or more depending on local labor rates.

My pleasure. If the front pump seal is not leaking, most other seals can be replaced with the trans still in the car. This compromise will significantly reduce labor cost. Food for thought.
Just had this done on my 85 about 4 weeks ago. You need to factor in the real likelihood that once the transmission is out and on the bench it will be wise to do a little more preventative maintenance. Since the labour costs are the killer part, you should make sure the transmission has been inspected thoroughly. Be prepared for internal seal kits, o-rings, bushings, (I had my pump upgraded from a 7 vane to a 10 vane), 3/4 clutches were scortched, the band was showing some wear, I had to replace my torque converter due to a lock/unlock shudder, add in about 11 litres of new fluid, a solenoid switch and in Canadian dollars, I was up to $1200.00 CDN which all in all was a reasonable price.
I had the same problem with my A4 tranny and for the cost of having a reputable tranny person take it apart to just replace worn seals, I had the entire tranny rebuilt for $1400
