I have a new rebuilt zf by Bill ayt zfdoc and he filled it with castrol.
Let me tell you about castrol bmw motor oil in my transmission....I first started getting grinded shifts 1-2 and 2-3. (93 vert ZF6) Next,at high RPM drag-race style shifting, the shift lever physically wouldnt not move into / and or engage the next gear. I had to abort several drag runs because of this.
I contact bill ata zfdoc and he suggested my clutch hydraulics were bad. I replaced master, slave, meticulously bled everything. No dice.
I told him I was running the castrol stuff. He then suggested I need a syncho rebuild at a cost of THOUSANDS of dollars.
I wondered if it could be the new Castrol 10w-60 fluid I had put in it and got the proper GM p/n stuff (listed in your owners manual) from my dealer. All the grinding, missed shifts, gears not engaging, etc. disappeared.
Bill at zfdoc has his own little 'scientific comparison' as to why using the castrol stuff is ok. I can only speak from my experiences.
Putting that stuff in my transmission was he!1l
E-mail Bill again as there was a seal problem that was installed backwards from GM (DOM style). I read that the new cast slaves from the aftermerket guys has the seal installed correctly. If you have a new Drawn Over Mandrel(DOM) GM slave, remove the piston and see if the seal is installed correctly. They just found the fix last week as I have heard that many of the C-4 owners were still having a shifting problem after replacing the master and the slave.
