Default Chips

I've heard that programmable chips don't do much for Corvette's.

The guy I'm buying my '92 from has a chip in it... but he says he didn't see much difference.

I'm afraid that it might actually be hurting. I'm going to try driving w/ and w/out the chip in but I'd like some additional opinions on them.

Also I know you need premium gas w/ the chip.... how about stock? Can you get by w/ mid-grade or *gasp* even regular in a pinch?

Aftermarket chips really don't do all that much overall. Chips can do a LOT if you have already modified other engine parts on the car as well.

Yes, you can get by with other grades of gas. You wouldn't want to go full throttle with 87 in an LT1, but it'll cruise ok on it.

Mine has it too, just found out a couple days ago (reprogram, not chip). I don't know what good it is doing, but probably isn't harming it. I know the fuel and spark curve were optimized, but to what, i don't know. I figure it probably gave a few ponies, but not much. I run 92-93 octane only. I don't trust 87 or lower.
